The first Avants Drive of 2020 was a big success. We had a great drive that included a little bit of everything, starting with the most important component of any Avants event….Top Pot Doughnuts!
Folks started rolling into the Regal Crossroads parking lot at around 8:00AM and promptly dug into the doughnuts. After a quick drivers meeting at 8:30 AM, we hit the road en route to our first stop, 22RPD in Renton, to check out some dyno action.
Squeezing 50+ cars in the 22RPD parking lot was a bit of challenge, but we made it work! Avants member Tim Alfaro’s BMW M6 was first up on the dyno, putting down a super-impressive 691HP at the wheels. After the dyno run, we got a tour of 22RPD’s shop, complete with plenty of BMW rod-bearing awesomeness.
We could have stayed there all day watching the dyno action but we had to hit the road and get to our next step…..Mad Max Cars in Puyallup. Co-owner Dee Vyper gave us a tour of the shop and taught us all about what goes into making these Mad Max replicas, which are based on Australian Ford Falcons. Super interesting stuff. But Dee and his team don’t stop at Mad Max cars, they build all sorts of high-end movie replica cars including the Batmobile, Ghostbuster’s rad station wagon and KITT from Knight Rider.
Overall, it was a great way to start the 2020 driving season!
