We get asked all the time, so we made it a highly controversial episode so you can yell at us while listening in your car! Here is all the off-road gear we are carrying all the time and links for most of where you can get it. A lot of this was purchased pre-Avants, on a budget, or in a hurry, and those are marked with an * as we do believe there are in fact better options out there, but this is exactly what we have. You can basically one-stop-shop all of this at our friends at MULE Adventure Outfitters and HKP Customs where your Avants discount really helps! We make ZERO from these links and we know there is better gear out there when it comes to straps, shackles, etc, but we wanted to be honest about what we use and it’s been working fine for us. We are not “hardcore” off-road experts, but we have been doing it a long time, and we do know this gear (and an occasional winch) get 99% of the work done and out of that snow bank or ditch.
The “I’m reasonably prepared for most things” off-road gear list and what we are currently carrying:
Good Tires (aka not strictly highway tires) - BFG K02, Falken Wildpeak A/T3W, Goodyear Duratrac, etc.
*Extra Tire Valve Cores - Slime Kit
*Soft Shackles (3) - 2x Rhino USA Soft Shackles, 1x orange one from MULE, not sure of the brand - Made in USA shackles were not availabe when I got the Rhino shackles. I recommend Factor 55, BubbaRope, Voodoo Offroad, or a made in USA brand.
Kinetic Rope - Voodoo Offroad 30’ - Purchased at MULE
Air Compressor - ARB Twin Compressor Kit - MULE (currently backordered)
Recovery Tracks - ARB Tred Pro - MULE
*Tow Strap - TGL Generic Tow Strap
*Tree Saver - TGL Generic Strap
*D-Rings - Generic Black D-Ring Shackles
*Hitch Receiver Recovery Block - Agency 6 Aluminum
*Axe - Fiskers Chopping Axe
Shovel - DMOS Alpha Shovel
Home Built First Aid Kit - Or just buy this one on Amazon
Custom built tool kit - Chances are you don’t need a full kit - look around your vehicle for what size sockets and wrenches you would need to work on your suspension and remove your skid plates
Zip Ties
Water and some basic food (protein bars are great)
Warm blanket or a packable sleeping bag
Flashlight
The nice stuff you’ll want but maybe not as essential list:
Deflator Kit - ARB E-Z Deflator
Air Lines - Morrflate 155” kit (though the 125” works for the Raptor)
*Handheld Radio - Baofeng BF-F8HP (Yes, you can get MUCH nicer radios, these are cheap and they work)
Saw - Silky Big Boy Hand Saw
Battery Jump Starter - Gooloo 2000A
Chain Saw - DeWalt Flexvolt 16”
Extra socks, gloves, and a rain jacket.
Storage:
I have an under-seat storage system in the Raptor that fits all my gear except the chainsaw, compressor, and the traction boards, but I also have a bed storage system on the way. If you are looking for a box for it all, Front Runner makes these handy little boxes and the DeWalt Tough System 2.0 boxes also work well. The earlier and tempting DeWalt boxes have metal latches that rust and cut you over time, but the new ones are great.
