Sunshine, twisty roads and exhaust crackles! These are a few of our favorite things. Last weekend’s Avants Drive to Lake Cushman had all three of these things and more!

After a quick drivers meeting in Tacoma near Anthem Coffee, we set out west on Ruston Way en route to five mile drive and then hopped on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge west toward Henderson Bay.

We stopped to stretch our legs, get some gas and hit the restroom at the Union 76 Station / Harvest Time Country Store. Then we were back on the road heading towards Highway 106 and the Hood Canal.

If you’ve never driven on Highway 106 along the Hood Canal, we highly recommend making a trip out that way. It’s a beautiful stretch of twisty roads directly on the edge of the Hood Canal. An absolutely perfect road with great scenery. Be sure to stop by Alderbrook Resort while you are out there.

Once we reached the town of Hoodsport, we headed up into the hills to Lake Cushman. We stopped at a beautiful park that sits high above the lake. A perfect spot for a group photo! By now, our tummies were growling so we headed back down the hill to have lunch at The Tides restaurant just outside of Hoodsport.

All in all, it was the perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday!

A big thank you to Fred and Rob for putting together the route and to Michael Gatch for the wonderful photos.
